INDEPENDENT SLAVES

Independence and slavery , two words with pole apart meanings yet going hand in hand  especially when discussion hovers about the Indian administration. The year 2021 will be cherished as the 74th year of independence and though with every 15th of August  my eyes gets numbed for the martyrs who laid their life in order to free this nation from the claws of British rule , who ensured that their future generations are not whiplashed with the scars of slavery and made sure that we enjoy every scintilla of freedom,  a question unremittingly creates commotion in my mind and soul that have we achieved the desired independence?

The answer is NO!!!!  we still are captured in the intangible wires of slavery that lurks under our education, administration yet we have failed to decipher it. How can I vouchsafe this with so much conviction? Well here is the answer!

Let me start with language , india is swamped with almost 19000 languages out of them 22 languages have been granted the official status , as per statistics regarding native speakers we have second highest number of speakers of varied languages after Guinea yet all of us are busy chasing to attain a sense of mastery over a single language devised by the Britishers
"English" the Britishers have permeated English throughout the length and breadth of the country such that 2 million people of this nation have English as their first language , 83 million having English as their second language and 43 million having as their third language. The Colonial language today is seen as an imperative paraphernalia for achieving success. Parents feel privileged on seeing the fact that their offsprings are well versed with English while it gets contumelious for them when they find their children conversating in hindi or getting fluttered in English. Not able to speak fluently not only makes you unworthy for a particular job but also takes a toll on your self esteem . I have seen many of my friends who are slogging their asses day and night just to master this one single language because they are deluded with this absurd notion that the gateway of their success gets unlocked by the English key

However stats provide a completely opposite picture , the sole reason why china , japan , Germany are acing in development is because they take humongous pride in their national language . You will never see a Chinese ambassador speaking English language at any international platform because they value their mother language . Studies have shown that students who were trained in their native language have outperformed all those who were trained with a secondary language. Yet despite of all this we are incessantly throwing ourselves in the rigmarole of learning a foreign language just to ensure a little boost in our self esteem and for ensuring that we are not being misunderstood as graduated illiterates

Second is the books that we read , all our history books have been framed from the lens of the Britishers . Once a Britishers said " India is conquered once , it shall be conquered twice but this time the conquest should be through education" . Crackerjack rulers have ruled this nation yet our textbooks glorify the invaders who drilled in and out of this nation , these pages exaggerated that how lucky we are to witness that carved future of India is free from all the orthodox practices has been the corollary of the British rule . None of our textbooks throw light on the glorious tales of Maharana Pratap, Shivaji , Pritiviraj chauhan or the rajput princess Padmavati who placed her honour way above her life. Even after 70 years we still study and rot about the rodents who Infested this nation but fail to study the contributions of these legendary personalities who transcended the position of this nation to  a different level. Why the legends of Bhagat Singh , Bose and Azad failed to occupy the chapters of our textbooks? A serious question that needs a serious debate

And last but not the least the constitution of this nation that has been a replica of British constitution. Even today majority of legal work is carried out in English language, we still have president body guards riding horses, My lord , your Honor terms that were implanted by the British administration still show their significance , heeding to the norms of common wealth games still show that how England is the dominating one . The Britishers still have this idea of being the superior class which is getting reinvigorated by the Administration of majority of countries

It is important that India carves its own niche rather than perpetually enjoying the warmth of a foreign cave. The generations needs to know about all the unsung heroes and their acts of bravery because of which we are breathing this air of freedom . It's high time that indian history gets rewritten but in a manner where our native languages occupy the centre of the table followed by the legendary tales about the magnificent indian rulers who shaped the destiny of this nation and uplifted india to an all together different level , it is crucial to write about a nation that once was the known as the golden birds , whose items accounted for half the world export, about a nation that contributed to 30% gdp , a nation of hermits , saints  , renowned doctors like Shusruta , a nation blessed with renowned scientists like J.bose, a nation with great poets , a nation that gave this world the weapon of Ayurveda to combat deadly disease and a multicultural and plural nation that despite of all odds became a supreme power
